tiny, little, pretties...

Here are a couple of my most beloved things...of course I keep them all displayed together! I bought this little silk French mannequin in England from a French vendor at a market exactly four years ago! We were on this tour of antique markets that we went on several times and that last time things were so expensive. I was looking for chandeliers and sconces as usual and I really couldn't even touch them. But I refused to exchange my pounds for dollars and lose the exchange fee again...so I bought something too expensive...but I just love her! And every time I look at her I am reminded of what a fun trip we had!

So she sits atop an antique French chest in my living room near this darling, little bird made by Nicole Bowen. I bought her this Christmas for Aspen instead of buying her a baby's first Christmas ornament. That way she can have her very own little collection of charming things. She was and still obsessed with birds, so I felt it was perfect for her! I also love the vintage pianos...this makes a great thing to display on, especially when you are limited with room in your house! So there you go miniature mannequins and miniature pianos!

The most darling little box...

I think I have mentioned before how addicted to silk ribbon work my mom and I are. We love to buy old ribbons and make creations constantly. She still gets the time to do this, but I don't get so much time to do it anymore, unless I have something specific I am doing it for. So yesterday my mom whips up the fabulous box! I want to have it! What a little treasure this thing is. Something anyone who loves old lace and ribbons would just love to have as a part of her collection. She decided she wants to sell it on ebay...hmm...how tragic for me! But lucky for all of you! The box doesn't open, so you can't store your treasures in here...alas...but it is so pretty to look at that you won't want to!

There are several more pictures with the ebay listing, but for some reason my computer is not wanting to display them all here!

So there's my little Easter treasure for you for the day! Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I do!

renaissance baby

This is a little frock I made for Aspen awhile back....it had to be one of my favorite pieces. This dress combines what I did when I made all women's clothing with what I do now with my children's line. For my ladies' things I used mostly all silk tafettas with lots of ribbon flowers or vintage flowers. This fabric was from scraps of a skirt I had left over and I used old velvet dyed ribbon for the straps...and then added all the silk flowers. The back room at my boutique is stacked about 14 feet high with loads of containes full of my ribbons and flowers and fabrics! I'm sure to anyone else it looks like a huge nightmare, but for me it is like Christmas everyday digging into those containers to find the perfect piece for a project!

The trouble is right now Miss Aspen has still not mastered walking and this poor dress would never last the whole day on her without being completely covered in dirt!

My mom did a painting of this picture above and with the frame Aspen looks just like a baby out of a renaissance painting, especially with the colors in the dress!

Anywho, I make little dresses like this quite often for my boutique, but they don't ever seem to make it into my etsy shop, so I wanted you to see what my passion as a mama couturier is.
